COURSE DESCRIPTION
Drawing & Painting will provide all students with an opportunity to study and explore the process of drawing and painting using a variety of materials
and techniques. They will be able to use and recognize the five basic elements of art (line, shape, value, texture and color) when creating
their own art and when analyzing the art of others. Students will also study the
art of various cultures and historical eras and will incorporate aspects of their
own culture and other cultures in several drawing and painting projects.

B. Art History

(A student should be able to understand the historical and contemporary role of the
arts in Alaska, the nation and the world)
Key Elements:
Student will complete at least 1 of the following:
- Compare/Contrast art from two or more Alaskan Native cultures
(e.g. Yup'ik parkas and Tlingit blankets)
- Compare/Contrast the art of two or more world cultures
(e.g. Maori tattoos and Japanese kimonos)
- Study and share about the life, work and importance of one famous artist
(Warhol, O'keefe, Matisse, Picasso, Rembrandt, van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne, Monet,
etc...)
- Research, report and test on several different movements and styles/schools of art(Impressionism,
Renaissance, Baroque, Prehistoric, Modern, etc...)
- Study the work of a Master artist and create a work of art using similar techniques
and materials
- Study and research on possible art-related careers
C. Critique
