MAINTENANCE FOREMAN

Definition

Under general supervision of the Maintenance Director, leads and participates in the work of crews engaged in a variety of site maintenance and construction activities, and performs related work as required or assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Performs maintenance mechanic work at the journey level and oversees the work of a maintenance crews and labor personnel. Carries out assigned work and exercises independent judgment to complete assigned tasks. Observes, monitors, trains, assigns, leads, and makes recommendations to the Maintenance Director regarding the work of subordinates assigned to a crew, shop, or team as requested. Provides written or oral information regarding the performance of subordinates as requested.

Typical Tasks

Oversees workers and participates in the maintenance and repair of school district buildings and equipment.

Oversees workers and participates in maintaining and repairing utility systems, such as electric wiring and controls, heating, plumbing, ventilating, generation, and refrigeration systems.

Requisitions needed tools, equipment, and supplies.

Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints and other specifications.

Supervises, trains, and evaluates staff.

Supervises custodial staff in coordination with principal.

Maintains required time and cost records.

Performs other work related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

Bachelors Degree or equivalent with major emphasis on engineering, architecture, construction management, or closely related field.

5 years experience performing a variety of maintenance activities; including 3 years leading and directing staff.

Knowledge of and ability to offer technical advice on engineering, architectural and construction matters.

Demonstrated successful experience and knowledge working in a multi-cultural setting.

Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
