PURCHASING TECHNICIAN

 

Definition

Under general supervision, performs assigned purchasing functions for the District.

Typical Tasks

1. Researches purchase sources, and methods of shipping freight when requested. Evaluate purchase requests for best buy/best freight options.

2. Ensures correct accounting codes and proper authorization on purchase requests.

3. Inputs purchase data on AS400, and prints and mails purchase orders.

4. Performs necessary follow-up on open purchase orders.

5. Maintains fixed asset inventories, issues control tags for additions, handles equipment disposal.

6. Prepares bid specifications when appropriate.

7. Prepares annual Spring orders including estimation of usage when necessary.

8. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

1. Associate of Arts Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent education or experience.

2. Three years general governmental accounting and purchasing experience.

3. Ability to organize and prioritize workload; ability to meet deadlines.

4. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.

5. Ability to use office equipment such as computer terminal, calculator, copier and fax machine.
