ACCOUNTANT
Definition
Supervises accounting functions of the District. Administers generally accepted accounting practices throughout the District to ensure consistency and accuracy of records. Manages some of the functions responsible for general and property accounting, payroll and benefits accounting, payables accounting, and budgetary controls.
Typical Tasks
1. Prepares financial statement information reflecting the organization’s cash balance costs, earning and profit position.
2. Posts information to journal entries and closes General Ledger monthly.
3. Reconciles and maintains bank account and oversees maintenance of related transfer accounts.
4. Reconciles and maintains grant reporting and billing.
5. Assists with development and implementation of internal controls, accounting policies and procedures.
6. Assists with revenue & budgetary reporting to State and Federal agencies.
7. Participates in and coordinates annual audit for department section; answers auditor questions as needed.
8. Ensures the correct and accurate accounting classification of all expenditures and documents.
9. Supervises the maintenance of the company accounts; assigns new account classifications as required.
10. Supervises, trains and evaluates staff.
11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education, Experience and Skills Required
1. Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
2. 5 years professional experience in Governmental Accounting or Public Accounting environments, including some supervisory experience.
3. Thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting practices and all related legislation and regulations.
4. Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
5. Proficiency to use spreadsheet and word processing programs.
