Plants have many parts. Each part has a job.

Seeds

  • Seeds are all around you.
  • Seeds come from growing plants.
  • All seeds have baby plants inside them.
  • Seeds come in many sizes, shapes and colors.
  • Seeds need water to grow.
  • Seeds need warmth to grow.
  • Seeds need food to grow.
  • Can you think of some seeds we eat?

    Flowers

  • Flowers produce the seed for the plant.

  •
  • A flower has four main parts.
  • Sepals
The leaves that cover and protect the bud while it is growing. The sepals peel back when the flower blooms.
    Petals
Petals are the brightly colored part of the flower that attracts insects.
    Pistil
The pistil is found in the center of the flower. It is sticky and is the part of the flower that makes seeds.
    Stamen
The stamen is grouped around the pistil. They are taller than the pistil and are often yellow. They hold pollen. Pollen is the powderlike dust that helps the flower make seeds.
