Educational kits are can be reserved ahead of time. The NPS staff at AAPLIC also has aResource Library with curriculum, books, games, tapes, posters & videos for classroo use. Kits are loaned for 1-2 weeks at a time (1-2 weeks is given for shipping out, you keep the kit for 1-2 weeks and then 1-2 weeks is given for shipment back in).
 


Procedure to Check Out a Kit

Educational kits are can be reserved ahead of time - up to 3 months in advance. 

  1. Call the center and request a kit
  2. Kits are loaned for 1-2 weeks at a time (1-2 weeks is given for shipping out, you keep the kit for 1-2 weeks and then 1-2 weeks is given for shipment back in). They allow 1 month total for check-out and return of kit.
  3. You may only check out one kit at a time.
Rules for Use:
  1. Kits must be postmarked by due date.
  2. APLIC pays for postage sent, borrower is responsible for postage returned.
When sending back the kit, please indicate on the check-out sheet the number of students using the kit and their grade/age.
KITS

Track Kit
This kit includes several tracking activities, trackstories, and the instructions for making your ownplaster casts. Teachers provide the plaster andother materials. Latex molds include beaver,coyote, eagle, bear, wolf, caribou and manymore!

Loon Kit
Check out this kit on our fantastic friends, thel oons. It contains a loon costume, slides, video,books, several activities and more! The kit comesfrom Alaska Science Teachers Association viafunds from ARCO Alaska, Inc., Audubon Society,and Alaska Department of Fish and Game.

Classroom Puppet Show Kit
We had such a response from students to handlethe puppets from the APLIC Traveling PuppetShow that we decided to create a puppet showfor classroom use. This puppet productionfeatures the True Story of the Three Little Pigs...the story of the Three Little Pigs from the wolf'sperspective. The show is sure to be a hit withplayers and audience alike! All puppets, scripts,props, and a portable stage are included.

Wolf Kit
Do you want your students to learn more aboutwolves? This kit from Alaska Department of Fishand Game includes activities, Native Americanstories, books, puppet, videos, posters, a wolfhide and skull, and more! Prepared with theassistance of biologists and educators throughoutAlaska, the kit is designed to be used at all gradelevels.

Marine Mammals Kit
An education kit with books, posters, games, avideo, puppets, and curriculum guides aboutmarine mammals in Alaska: Whales, dolphins,porpoises, seals, walrus, polar bears and otters.This kit was developed at the Southeast AlaskaDiscovery Center in Ketchikan.

Beak Adaptation Kit
Imagine a hummingbird trying to gulp down a mouse, or an eagle trying to sip nectar from atiny flower...sounds impossible, right? This kit willallow your students to determine ways that birds'beaks are adapted to retrieving and eatingdifferent foods. The kit follows NatureScope's"Fill The Bill" activity and includes materials for 8different stations of hands-on experiments withbeaks using kitchen tools.

Owl Pellet Kit
Are you studying bones? Try a unique means ofteaching by dissecting an owl pellet. Owls,hawks and other raptors swallow their preywhole and later regurgitate a pellet containingcomplete skeletons of rodents, moles, shrews,and birds. (The pellets are sanitized.) Alaskan Animal Scent Kit
