Without food, you could live for a month. Without water
you may die after three days.
If you are stranded with little water take these precautions.
-
Eat as little as possible. When you digest food your body uses a
lot of water
-
Do as little exercise as you can, as this makes you sweat.
-
Do not drink sea water. This has a high salt content and will make you
even more thirsty.
-
In high temperatures, take shelter or wear protective clothing. You
can sweat as much as 4 litres (7pints) of water in an hour.
-
In cold conditions, always breathe through you nose rather than your mouth.
This warms air entering your lungs. You lose water in your breath,
especially if the air you inhale is cold.
