The Capital of the United States is being moved--and student teams get a chance to explain to Congress the geographic, historic, and cultural reasons for moving it to their chosen state. Of course, intensive research will be required to determine the advantages of each assigned state. Students will present their arguments in PowerPoint, posters, brochures, or multimedia.

http://score.rims.k12.ca.us/activity/c2c/
In this virtual journey, students will travel to a city of their choice on the east coast. They are given unlimited budgets but must keep a record of the amounts they spend, for a car first of all, then food, hotel, tourism, etc. They will be creating postcards, brochures, maps, weather charts, collages, and city reports.

The outcome of this webquest will be to create a database--of current fashions and fads across the different states.  In the pursuit of hot styles and music and food, students will of course learn something about the states along the way. (If you require email correspondents for your quest, we will gladly post your request in our Teacher column.)

For an extended activity or project, let your students create a web page with their collected information, applying graphics and comparison charts accordingly.
